Rancho Mission Viejo’s Gavilán 55+ Living ‘Turns Neighbors into Family’
Rancho Mission Viejo, CA (October 18, 2024) - Paul and Paula DeCapua were in search for a single-level home with beautiful views and a peaceful neighborhood. Their journey led them to Rancho Mission Viejo’s Village of Sendero and a Gavlián 55+ neighborhood that they have happily called home for nearly a decade.
“We were looking for a community that was quiet, small and new. Rancho Mission Viejo fit our needs perfectly. The single-level home also made sense for us as we get older,” said Paul.
Gavilán, The Ranch’s brand for the unique 55+ lifestyle and single-level living, allows residents to stay connected to every generation, while enjoying exclusive access to resort style amenities, events, and activities designed for those who enjoy a vibrant lifestyle.
One of the standout features of their experience in Sendero has been the strong sense of community. “When we moved in, we quickly got to know our neighbors through monthly get-togethers,” said Paul. “Now, it feels like we’re one big family. The friendships we share with our neighbors has been a highlight of living here.”
Paul has settled nicely into retirement, becoming an active volunteer at The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, which will eventually include over 20,000 acres of Rancho Mission Viejo lands, including The Richard & Donna O’Neill Conservancy.
“Knowing that our view from our house will remain unchanged forever because of The Nature Reserve is priceless. It is a rare find in today’s world,” said Paul. The DeCapua’s feel fortunate to live in a place where nature is valued, enhancing their quality of life.
Paul has dedicated nearly 2,000 hours of volunteer time to The Nature Reserve, engaging with school programs and outreach events. “Getting involved has been a fulfilling way for me to connect even more with this wonderful community. I love sharing the beauty of our open spaces and helping others understand how important it is to protect the land,” said Paul.
His passion for conservation and education has inspired many other residents in the community to get involved as well.
While Paul appreciates that most of the land will remain untouched, he’s also grateful for still developing areas that enhance the daily lives of the residents, including the addition of Sendero Marketplace which houses a grocery store, several dining options, and a Memorial Care urgent care office.
“The community of Rancho Mission Viejo offers a unique blend of newness and tranquility, along with a supportive spirit that is hard to find elsewhere,” said Paul. “It’s not just a place to live; it’s a place to thrive.”
